Nova Scotia, Canada
September 2026
My wife and I made a trip to Nova Scotia, Canada in 1990, shortly after we were married. Living in Mt. Vernon, NY at the time, we decided to drive to Bar Harbor, ME, take the car ferry to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and make a loop around Nova Scotia. This year, in 2026, more than three decades later, we decided to do a similar trip, but with some significant differences. For one, besides being older, I now had both a 4x5 and 5×7 large format camera and wanted to take photos of the coast. To avoid a lot of down time for my wife, it made most sense for me to drive the trip much like we did years ago, but my wife would fly to Halifax where I would meet her and we would then explore Halifax and take day trips from there, all of which we did and enjoyed. What follows are black and white photos of my driving trip, starting with Cheticamp on the west side of Nova Scotia and ending with Blue Stone on the east side. The photos were taken using HP5+ film.
